Digital Signature Certificate for EPFO / ePF Filing
A Class 3 Signing DSC lets you authenticate every action on the EPFO Unified Portal — employer registration, monthly ECR uploads, employee identity approvals, and transfer claims — and it's mandatory, not optional, for every registered employer. Why Income Tax e-Filing Needs a DSC
The Income Tax Department allows returns and forms to be verified either through Aadhaar OTP / EVC or through a registered Digital Signature Certificate. For certain categories of taxpayers, using a DSC isn't a matter of convenience — it's a statutory requirement under the e-filing rules.
Legally equivalent to a wet signature
A Class 3 DSC gives your electronically filed return, audit report, or reply to a notice the same legal standing as a physically signed and stamped document, as recognised under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
One-time registration, ongoing use
Once your DSC is registered against your PAN on the income tax e-filing portal, you can reuse it every assessment year — for ITR filing, audit reports, and any notice responses — until the certificate expires.
Is DSC Mandatory for Your Filing?
DSC-based verification is compulsory for some categories of taxpayers, and optional (in place of Aadhaar OTP/EVC) for others.
Companies filing ITR-6
Every company is required to verify its Income Tax Return using a Class 3 DSC — Aadhaar OTP/EVC is not an available option.
Taxpayers liable to tax audit
Individuals, firms, and LLPs whose accounts require a tax audit under Section 44AB must verify their return and audit report with a DSC.
Political parties & certain trusts
Political parties and specified trusts/institutions filing returns under audit provisions are also required to use DSC-based verification.
Individual taxpayers (not under audit)
Salaried individuals and other taxpayers not liable to audit can e-verify via Aadhaar OTP or net banking, or choose to sign digitally with a DSC instead.
